II International Congress on Grapevine and Wine Sciences

With the success of the first conference, The Institute of Grapevine and Wine Sciences, (Instituto de Ciencias de la Vid y el Vino, ICVV) is proud to celebrate the second edition of the II International Conference of Grapevine and Wine Sciences, that will be held in Rioja Forum (Logroño, Spain) from the 8th to the 10th of November, 2023.

The conference will promote a multidisciplinary interaction space for professionals who want to keep up to date on current scientific advances in these fields. To be inclusive to all who wish to attend, especially the wine industry, the official language of the congress will be English. However, throughout the conference simultaneous translation will be available from English to Spanish.

This international forum aims to present and discuss the latest developments in viticulture, microbiology, genetics,  biotechnology, enology, wine chemistry, perception, and bioactive compounds in wine and grape. In order to demonstrate how scientific research can positively influence the production of better, safer, healthier and higher quality grapes and wines, in a context framed by sustainability, climate change and circular economy, internationally recognized scientists will be invited to share their findings.

The scientific program includes five invited Plenary Lectures imparted by Dario Cantú (Professor at the University of California Davis), Amparo Querol (Research Professor at IATA-Valencia, Spain), Vicente Ferreira (Professor at the Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain) and Nathalie Ollat (Research Professor at the ISVV-INRAe-Bordeaux, France). The conference closure will be carried out by Ursula G. Fradera (Scientific coordinator of the Wine Information Council (WIC).

Each of these conferences will give way to the corresponding sessions in which communications in both oral and poster format will be presented. The organising committee will award the two best communications among Graduate Students and Early Career Researchers.

Prior to the start of the Congress, two simultaneous satellite workshops will take place. The first, Workshop 1 entitled: What do –omics provide to the grape and wine sciences? An update, where renowned experts will share their experience on the possibilities that genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics can offer to the grape and wine sector. In the second workshop: Wines of the future: round table & tasting, the future of viticulture and wine production in the context of climate change will be discussed. In order to illustrate the different possible trends in the wine industry different wines will be tasted.

In addition to the scientific program, the participants will be able to enjoy a pleasant social program, which will begin with a welcome cocktail on Wednesday. On Thursday, participants will have the opportunity to visit different wineries settled in the capital of DOCa Rioja, Haro, that will be followed by the congress dinner that will take place in an emblematic building of the town of Haro, perfect for enjoying the charm of the region.
